Overall, this is a below average episode of Black Mirror. While it does indulge in some interesting concepts such as free will or how the stress of choices can affect a damaged mind, it never really fleshes out these ideas. We are too busy being distracted by the choices we need to make and therefore cannot afford to get invested in the actual story going on.

We never get a good sense of who the main character Stefan, is. His identity is solely based around his obsession with creating a game based on a “choose your own adventure” book, and the fact that he has a bad relationship with his father. And the fact that his sanity is determined by the viewer means that this character is nothing more than a blank slate.

One might argue this is the entire point the episode is trying to make, or you could see this as lazy writing.
