Doctor Strange
2016
Director: Scott Derrickson
Genre: Superhero action
Let me ask you a question.
What do you remember from this film?
Do you remember moments, visuals, the thrill you felt from seeing a fight scene? Perhaps you did. Maybe that's enough.
Movies are just meant to entertain, right? Everything has a meaning. Food is meant for sustenance. Sleep is meant for energy. Sex is meant for procreation.
Doctor Strange is a meaningless, dull film, with unlikable characters, overly choreographed fight scenes, and writing as if felt like it went through so many drafts that it became immaterial.
However, I didn't hate the film. It is not a film to be celebrated or re-watched. It meant for a small burst of adrenaline, perhaps during a particularly boring day. Films can be more than this. We shouldn't have to accept this as the normal progression of culture.
Worth watching if you're a Marvel fan or a fan of Doctor Strange. But either way, you'd get the same emotional impact from reading the synopsis on Wikipedia.
